紐約餐館「鼠」 輩多

〔編譯羅彥傑／綜合二十三日外電報導〕鼠滿為患一直是人口密集的紐約市頭痛的問
題。一名電視台新聞部攝影師二十三日清晨拍到肯德基與塔可貝爾餐廳格 林威治村分店
有三十至五十隻老鼠橫行，在櫃台、餐桌、兒童高腳椅之間四竄的畫面，隨後經各大電
視新聞網與網路轉載播放，引起熱烈討論。

「多到足以吃人」 衛生局勒令歇業
五十二歲的攝影師賈西亞說，他是奉新聞部製作人之令，前往這間位於第五大道的分
店，因為有線報說該餐廳外在拂曉前傳出騷動，當時餐廳還沒開。他和圍觀的人群透過
餐廳窗戶看到老鼠，「數量多到足以吃掉一個活生生的人」，而且在牆壁間爬上爬下。

賈西亞說，他趕緊跑回自己的廂型車拿裝備，捕捉這難得的畫面。他說，這些老鼠跑到
前窗，好像要把他的攝影機抓下來玩一樣，而且似乎被光線迷住。紐約地鐵隧道、垃圾
堆、公園與公寓大廈牆邊經常有老鼠流竄，但在眾目睽睽之下在一個地方看見這麼多老
鼠，倒還相當罕見。

紐約市衛生局立即派人進入這間分店檢查，並發現多項違規，包括天花板與地板有破
洞，數月前才因爆發生菜含大腸桿菌疫情導致七十多名東岸顧客生病、業績直落的百勝
餐飲集團（肯德基與塔可貝爾的母公司），現在被迫再度要做亡羊補牢的工作。

百勝餐飲集團在聲明中說，此事完全無法接受，他們正要求加盟店業者給個交代，在該
分店重新消毒且取得衛生證明書前，絕不會讓它重新營業。

衛生局資深檢查員費拉喬女士說，該分店所處的大樓地下室正在施工，讓老鼠有縫可
鑽。衛生局發言人瑪克特女士說，這間分店去年十二月曾通過檢查，但當時就有數項違
規，包括有老鼠從高處掉下來。

Rats run free in New York KFC

You've heard the saying, when the cats away the mice will play, well if the
cat is humans and the mice are rats, then the same apparently applies.


A New York City news crew shot video showing about a dozen rats
running around a KFC-Taco Bell restaurant in Greenwich Village. The
video was widely disseminated Friday on TV stations and the Internet.

The footage, taken from the sidewalk through a window, showed the rats
running around the floor, between counters and tables and on children's
high chairs. The establishment was not open at the time.

News crews flocked to the scene, and onlookers gave a play-by-play as
the rodents moved about. When one rat came close to the window, a
person on the sidewalk said: "He's coming for his close-up."

There was no answer at the phone number displayed in neon on the store
window below the words "We Deliver."

Yum Brands Inc., based in Louisville, Ky., owns the KFC and Taco Bell
chains. A message for comment left by The Associated Press was not
immediately returned on Friday.

It wasn't immediately clear if the restaurant in question was owned by the
company or a franchisee.

Last week, it was reported that Taco Bell sales had slumped after a widely
publicized E. coli scare, but that international sales helped Yum Brands in
the company's fourth quarter.

The E. coli outbreak late last year caused more than 70 Taco Bell
customers to become ill. Federal officials said in December that the most
likely source of the illnesses was lettuce. Taco Bell took precautions by
changing its suppliers of lettuce and cheese in New York, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Rats have long been a problem in New York City, with such a dense
population and such a large and readily available food supply for the
rodents. They are frequently scampering through subway tunnels, rooting
through trash, dashing across parks and burrowing into the walls of
apartment buildings.

But it is rare to see so many rats congregating in one place in such public
view.

堪薩斯一小女嬰被老鼠咬到幾近毀容

美國密蘇里州的坎薩斯市，最近進行全市大滅鼠，因為堪薩斯有一名四星期大的女嬰，
被大老鼠咬到幾近毀容。

據美聯社報導，這名受害女嬰，是一名早產兒；星期天早上，她的爸爸媽媽在餵過奶之
後，就把小女嬰放在嬰 兒床上睡覺，過了沒多久，床上的警報器忽然鈴聲大作，女嬰的
父母趕過去看，竟然發現小女嬰躺在血泊當中，鼻子和上嘴唇都被咬掉了，而嬰兒床上
留了一坨老鼠 的糞便，因此他們才知道，自己的小寶寶，受到老鼠攻擊；警方到現場調
查之後，初步認為可能是小寶寶身上的奶味，讓老鼠錯把小寶寶當做食物。

堪薩斯「滅鼠計 畫」執行單位，在得知這起駭人聽聞的老鼠咬寶寶事件之後，表示十分
震驚，並且聲稱「這種事情絕對不可以再發生第二次」，因此發起全城滅鼠行動，要把
老鼠趕 出堪薩斯。

Sweep follows KC rat attack

Exterminators treated homes and sewers in a Kansas City neighborhood
Monday after a rat apparently crawled into a 4-week-old baby’s crib and
disfigured the girl’s face.

The girl’s parents put her in a crib next to their bed about 4 a.m. Sunday
in the 4100 block of Montgall Avenue. The baby, who was born
prematurely, wears a heart and breathing monitor.

About 8:40 a.m. Sunday, the parents heard the monitor’s alarm and saw
their baby lying in a pool of blood. Her nose and part of her upper lip were
gone.The parents found rat feces in the crib. Police said they think milk
or formula that the baby spat up attracted the rat.

“We don’t want this to ever happen again,” said Michael Swoyer, the
supervisor of the city’s rat-control program. “We’re all over the
neighborhood now.” Swoyer said that in several years of working in rat
control, he had not heard of a rat attacking a human, although he said he
thought less severe incidents may have occurred but were not reported.

Swoyer said rats can get into a house by squeezing into a hole the size of
a quarter, and they can bite six times per second.

加州公園松鼠太多 政府準備管制繁殖

美國加州〔聖塔模尼卡公園〕松鼠太多，園方準備用藥物限制松鼠發育，以免松鼠過
多，把疾病傳染到遊客身上。

〔帕利薩德公園〕從1998年起，就有松鼠過多問題，曾經5次撲殺松鼠，讓松鼠數目維
持平衡，現在松鼠數目又達到1千隻左右，引起園方擔心松鼠傳染疾病，危害遊客健康。

現在園方準備投放藥物，讓松鼠吃下後，延緩性發育，減少牠們交配跟受孕機會。

Frisky squirrels on birth control

RAMPANTLY breeding squirrels in a California park are to be put on
BIRTH CONTROL in a bid to quell their amorous desires.

Desperate officials in Santa Monica will adopt the controversial measure
after poison, gassing and euthanasia failed to control the squirrel breeding
frenzy in Palisades Park.

The frisky rodents will be injected with a contraceptive vaccine that stops
ovulation and lactation in female, while halting testicular development in
males.

Health officials say the squirrels, which number an estimated 1,000 in the
park, are aggressive and may carry rabies or host fleas that can spread
disease, such as bubonic plague.

Animal activist Catherine Rich said although she supported the vaccine
program, any health risk posed by the squirrels was exaggerated. "There
is not a pressing threat of squirrels attacking people so I don’t know why
the county is getting their panties in a bunch," she said.

五顏六色的老鼠

家裏最近有鼠患，起初頗為這麼高的樓也有老鼠而感到意外，後來看到報導，紐約帝國
大廈一百多層也是鼠輩猖獗，也就釋然了。老鼠橫行當然是討厭的事，夜裏常在天花板
上奔跑，弄出聲音；食物水果常常被咬破一個大洞或不翼而飛；最令人痛心的是，有時
會咬壞櫥櫃、咬斷電線，防不勝防，甚至擔心哪一天牠會咬壞瓦斯管線。

怎麼辦呢？我想到我佩服的兩位古人，一位是蘇東坡，他說：「愛鼠常留飯，憐蛾不點
燈。」還有一位是弘一大師，他說，如果把要養貓的食物拿來餵鼠，老鼠吃飽了就不會
破壞東西，則鼠患可絕。

於是，我總在晚飯後，留一些飯菜在飯桌上，給那些鼠輩享用，很快地就發現「今鼠已
非古鼠」、「世風日下，鼠風不古」，牠們不知道是生性狡猾或是口胃挑剔，特地保留
的食物總是不吃，不給吃的偏偏東吃一口、西吃一口。

不 之後，我就失去蘇東坡的愛心和弘一的耐心了。我想不採取一點行動不行了，滅鼠藥
和黏鼠板不在考慮之內，因為過於殘忍有違慈悲心原則，老鼠夾也不行，違背殺生的戒
律，剩下的只有老鼠籠了。 我原先的想法是，以老鼠籠捕捉老鼠，然後帶到深山去放
生，既可杜絕鼠患，也可讓老鼠隱遁山林。

有一次和朋友提起，朋友是藝專戲劇科畢業的，他說起在學生時代，宿舍中有鼠患，有
一個一勞永逸的方法。

「抓到老鼠之後，在老鼠身上塗以鮮豔的顏彩，例如臉是大紅色，身體是綠色、黃色、
藍色，尾巴塗成白色，然後把老鼠放走，老鼠就會絕跡了。」「為什麼呢？」 朋友說：
「這是老鼠心理學，那隻五彩的老鼠逃回洞裏，牠的親戚朋友會大為恐怖，就會四散奔
逃；那隻五彩的老鼠則會大為愧疚，也會逃走；這樣，不只是一隻老鼠，整窩老鼠都會
絕跡了。」

我覺得朋友的方法很不錯，有一天抓到一隻老鼠就如法炮製了，把老鼠畫成平劇臉譜的
樣子，放牠回去，想不到真的有效，家裏的老鼠從此絕跡了。

一直到現在我還心存疑惑，那隻被畫了臉譜的老鼠真的心懷愧疚嗎？其他的老鼠真的心
惑恐怖嗎？這是無法追索的，但老鼠也是有細膩感知的眾生，這一點是可以確定的吧！

老鼠進住提款機 鈔票被啃得面目全非

愛沙尼亞首都「塔林」一處提款機遭老鼠入侵，機器內數萬元的鈔票被啃得面目全非。

這件事是在當地居民提錢時，發現提款機吐出的鈔票有一部分遭到啃食，因此通報銀
行，於是銀行著手查明原因，最後發現，提款機內竟然住了一隻大老鼠，許多鈔票都被
啃得面目全非，或被揉得一踏糊塗，顯然老鼠將鈔票當成窩。

安全人員表示，機器內較溫暖，吸引老鼠進住，但是老鼠是怎麼爬進去的？他們還在調
查。

Mouse ‘robs’ cash machine

A mouse munched its way through thousands of pounds of cash after
climbing inside a cash machine in Estonia. The animal was found in the
machine after a customer withdrew some money and got partly-eaten
banknotes outside the bank in the capital Tallinn.

Bank security experts are investigating how the mouse managed to get
into the machine. Kristina Tamberg, spokeswoman for Hansapank Bank,
said: “We have never heard of anything even remotely like this happening
before.

“At some stage over the weekend the chewed money jammed, and the
mouse seems to have spent the rest of the weekend turning the notes into
bedding. “It probably was attracted by the warmth from the machine and
decided to make itself at home.”

都「鼠」你害的! 越航抓老鼠 誤點四小時

一隻小白老鼠迫使一架準備飛往日本的越南航空客機誤點四個多小時。

這架越南航空波音777客機昨天從越南蜆港飛抵河內，準備下一站要前往日本東京，
但一名乘客告訴空服員說，他在機艙內看到一隻白色的小老鼠。越南航空發言人說，他
們從沒遇過這種事，但基於安全考量，沒有找到小老鼠，飛機就不能起飛，結果航空公
司人員在機艙內四處搜捕，最後總算抓到這隻小老鼠，飛機也終於啟程前往目的地，不
過這距離原定起飛時刻已經晚了四個多小時。

越南航空局懷疑，這隻小老鼠可能是隨著乘客的手提行李一起登機。

Mouse delays Vietnamese flight for 4 hours

Officials believe rodent escaped after passenger brought it onboard
HANOI, Vietnam - A fugitive mouse delayed the departure of a
Japan-bound airliner for more than four hours Sunday as technicians
hunted down the potential threat, airline officials said.

A passenger spotted the white mouse running on the floor of the plane on
an initial leg of the Vietnam Airlines flight, prompting a hunt by about a
dozen technicians worried that it could chew through a vital wire.

The mouse was found in a food storage area and the Boeing 777 was
cleared for takeoff, said Tran Tien Dung, head of the airline's air safety
department.

"This is the first time we experienced something like this," airline
spokesman Nguyen Chan said.

Chan said Vietnamese aviation authorities suspect that a passenger
brought the mouse on board in hand luggage.

Dung said the airline will caution passengers and increase baggage checks
to make sure that no live animals are brought on board.
