Video Compression Comparison

We started this experiment for designing a piano recital promotional website. Because there are not many video oriented websites due to the heavy server load and bandwidth requirement, we tried to find a better balance between video/audio quality and file size so we can estimate whether the project is achievable with given financial constraints.

-- Addtional Notes --
This concept seems to be proven achievable (thanks to popularity of YouTube.com), but it was a relatively new idea back in 2003.

Length: 20 seconds
Recording Date: 2003/09/06
Composer: Frederic Chopin
Title: Etude Op10 #1
Performer: Nikko Cheng
Video Codec: Windows Media Video V7
Audio Codec: Windows Media Audio 9

In this demonstration, we presented one video with three different compression setting, which yielded three different file sizes. The video was recorded in a piano practice room of San Francisco State University. We chose a piano piece with somewhat rapid finger movement: Piano Etude Opus 10 Number 1 in C by Chopin. Since this is for demonstration purpose only, we only used the first 20 seconds of the whole film.
