Intel 8088 - 1979
From technical perspective, Intel 8088 is a simplified version of 8086. Internally, it is still a 16-bit processor, but its external data bandwidth is reduced to 8 bits; Compare to 8086, whose internal and external bandwidth are both 16 bits, Intel 8088 is not very appealing to the market. However, it is good enough for DOS system and the applications at the time (especially its reduced cost). Intel 8088 is the processor of IBM's first personal computer - IBM XT PC.
Intel P8088-2 is the massive production version of 8008 and -2 suffix indicates that it is the 8 Mhz version.

以技術的觀點來看,8088其實是8086的簡化版中央處理器晶片(CPU),其內部指令是十六位元,但是外部資料頻寬縮減為八位元;比起8086內部資料頻寬、外部資料頻寬均為16位元,定址頻寬為二十位元,記憶體定位功能達到1MB的規格來說,是稍差了一點,但是已經足以勝任DOS系統和當時的應用程式了(也便宜多了)。這也是IBM第一款個人電腦PC XT所採用的微處理器。
這顆Intel P8088-2 為8088的量產版,-2字尾代表它是8 Mhz。
